EUROSTUDENT data presented at Via Universitària conference

Barcelona, Spain, 15 May 2019
On May 15th, the project coordinator Kristina Hauschildt followed an invitation to Barcelona. In the Aula Magna of the University of Barcelona, the Xarxa Vives Network presented the results of the Via Universitària survey. The survey covers access, learning conditions, expectations and returns for university studies and is based on the responses of more than 40,000 students in the Xarxa Vives network of higher education institutions in Andorra, the Balearic Islands, Valencia and Catalonia. At the event, Kristina presented EUROSTUDENT results and explored the similarities and differences between the Via Universitària results and the latest EUROSTUDENT findings. In a European context, the Via Universitària survey indicated students to be comparatively young, with a relatively high dependence on the family as a source of financing their studies. Working alongside studies is less common than elsewhere, and students spend a high number of hours on their studies. As in almost all EUROSTUDENT countries, students from lower educational backgrounds are underrepresented. The Via Universitària survey also covers topic areas not included in EUROSTUDENT, such as student engagement and teaching and assessment styles. A English report on the main results, conclusions and proposals can be downloaded from the project website.
